MURDER of SHAHJAHAN BACHCHU, Rationalist editor and writer in Bangladesh

Shahjahan Bachchu, 55 years old Bangladeshi editor, has been assassinated by bullets on Sunday June 10, 2018, by a motorcyclist commando in the village of Kakaldi (Munshigani District), where he lived.

Shahjahan Bachchu was a rationalist figure of the struggle for secularism and freedom of expression. He lately has been threatened. He managed his own publishing house Bishakha Prokashoni and was the chief redactor of the weekly newspaper Amader Bikrampur. Former district general secretary of the Communist Party in Bangladesh, he was known as a freethinker.

The International Association of Free Thought would like to pay tribute to this brave man and addresses his sincere sympathy to his wife and his close.

According the International Rationalist Association which informed us, “The religious extremists in Bangladesh have killed most than a dozen of rationalists, atheists or non muslim writers, bloggers and activists”.

The International Association of Free Thought joins in the campaign to shed full light on this new murder and requires the Bangladeshi government to arrest and trial the perpetrators.

It expresses its full solidarity and support to the humanists, rationalist and freethinkers of Bangladesh.
